A team of Solutioneers

Working at Smet Group means finding solutions to challenges that no one else has dared to tackle. Every drilling, measurement, construction, and installation project begins with a leap into the unknown. That requires courage. Technical insight. And above all: the drive to create, time and again, what does not yet exist.

Ready to take on challenges in the construction industry? We do that with a team of Solutioneers: people who dare to ask questions, think ahead, and turn every problem into a solution. Technical, well-thought-out, and firmly grounded.

What it means to be a Solutioneer

(noun, the; plural: Solutioneers)

Someone who uses technical creativity and practical knowledge to devise and implement solutions, often for complex or unprecedented challenges. At Smet Group: a forward thinker and doer who doesn’t get bogged down by the problem, but solves it together with the entire team —using common sense, craftsmanship, and a sense of responsibility.

Example: A Solutioneer sees no obstacles, but opportunities.

You and your teammates will stay overnight, if the commute to the job site (from Dessel) is 1 hour or more. You’ll either leave together from Dessel in a company vehicle or travel directly to the site. Preferences can always be discussed.

Your workweek ends on Thursday evening or Friday afternoon. This varies by division.

Not always. For most office jobs, we require a specific degree or background. For positions as a worker, on the other hand, motivation and interests can be the deciding factors.

Absolutely! Smet Group wants to support your professional growth. It’s in our DNA. Becoming a bricklayer, formwork carpenter or other construction trade can be learned at school, through VDAB, or at other training institutions. But if you want to become a drilling supervisor or a pump operator, you can learn those skills with us through a customized, hands-on programme.

Today, we offer a comprehensive training programme consisting of more than 100 courses. Our head of training oversees and guides all divisions in the training of new and existing employees.

One of our unique benefits is the “My Smetbudget,” a plan for office workers. This plan consists of fringe benefits that you can choose yourself. For example, you can lease a bicycle, purchase a second laptop, contribute to a retirement savings plan, or take out additional hospitalization insurance … After 6 months of employment, you can already start taking advantage of your first benefits.

We’re glad you’re interested! Please describe your experience briefly and why you’d like to apply for the job. Then, submit your CV and cover letter through our job site. Once we receive your application, we’ll review it, and a recruiter will make an initial assessment of how well you match the job opportunity and our company culture. If you send us a spontaneous application, we’ll check to see if there are opportunities elsewhere. We’ll try to get back to you within 48 hours with a reply.

Did you make it through the first selection round? If so, we’ll invite you to a one-on-one interview with our recruiter. Depending on the position, a relevant manager will also be present to ask questions. If further evaluation is needed, a second interview or a test may be scheduled.
