Theater aan de Parade
The new Theater aan de Parade in ’s-Hertogenbosch was renovated, starting from the ground up, thanks in part to Smet Group.
- Client: Mertens Construction Company
- Period: 20020–2021
- Location: ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands
- Solution: Foundations
- Technology: Jet-grout piles, jet-grout walls, gel foundation, Torx piles, construction pits
Behind the Scenes
Den Bosch chose to build the new Theater aan de Parade on top of the existing basement of the old theater. The basement itself was expanded and the foundations were reinforced.
- VHP piles were selected to reinforce the foundation. At the front of the theater, soil-displacing Torx piles were installed. In addition, the foundation beneath two concrete footings was reinforced using grout blocks.
- The existing basement was expanded with a water-retaining structure consisting of jet-grout walls and a gel floor.
A Sustainable Approach to the Project
The foundation work took the limited workspace into account when selecting the equipment. We also believe that cultural heritage should be preserved in the best possible condition for as long as possible and restored to its former glory.
- SDG 9 – Because we were using a small drill in the center of Den Bosch, ambient noise was kept to a minimum there.
- SDG 11 – Through this renovation project, we are extending the lifespan of existing cultural heritage. In this way, we are preserving cultural infrastructure and preventing the demolition of existing buildings.
